Portugal’s capital since the 13th century, Lisbon is home to a half-million lively and friendly residents and boasts the title of the oldest city in Western Europe. A place of great global importance, thanks to its finance, commerce, arts, media, trade, education, and tourism industries, Lisbon is rich in architecture – ranging from Romanesque to Post-Modern – and offers visitors world-class museums like the National Museum of Ancient Art, live music and theater, the second-largest aquarium in the world, and restaurants that feature diverse food from dozens of world cultures. It’s a joy to explore on foot or via public transportation.

Santa Cruz, Tenerife
Discover the largest and most populous of the Canaries with ample time to seek out the capital’s cosmopolitan charms. Alternatively, go hiking up Spain’s highest peak, Mount Teide, or enjoy a leisurely catamaran trip to visit a pod of whales that live year round off the perennially sunny south coast. If your cruise visits in December you can enjoy on-board festivities as you cruise towards Tenerife; raise a glass during cocktail hour before tucking into a traditional Christmas lunch. To round off your special day you can look forward to the traditional Christmas Day concert in Santa Cruz harbor performed by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra – it’s sure to be a memorable event. The buzzing atmosphere of Las Palmas is evident as soon as you arrive, and you can make the most of it with an overnight mooring. The city has a distinctly Mediterranean vibe and even the old quarter, Vegueta, is a popular haunt filled with busy bars and stylish restaurants. If you like a quieter atmosphere, perhaps visit the resort of Puerto Mogan on the south of the island, with its small network of pretty canals.

Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura is an island of vast plains and gentle valleys. Wander around the old harbor area with its traditional Canarian houses, or spend the day stretched out on Corralejo Beach, a stunning stretch of white sand and turquoise sea.
